MOSCOW, March 4 (Xinhua) - The decision by Russia \ 'incumbent Leonid Tyagachev Olympic chief to quit was a \ "normal reaction to comments by Medvedev and Russian sports fans, \" said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday in a statement on its website.
The Russian Olympic Committee said earlier that Tyagachev had rendered his resignation, which will be officially announced at a future committee meeting.

Russia recorded its worst performance in Vancouver, taking only three gold medals, five silver and seven bronze medals to finish 11th gold and sixth overall medal.
Medvedev on Monday called for a radical change in the system of training athletes, and the resignation of officials responsible for preparing athletes for the Russian Winter Olympic Games.
\ "Those who bear the responsibility for Olympic preparations should take over immediately. Officials should make a courageous decision and submit their resignations, \" the president said.
Also on Thursday, Medvedev asked the government to involve non-governmental organizations to discuss the situation and develop proposals to reform the system of sport management in Russia.
Another official strongly criticized by the media, sport and Russian Minister of Tourism, Vitaly Mutko has also expressed willingness to resign from Russia that followed the \ 'flop Vancouver.
