According to Human Rights Watch, several opposition leaders in Kyrgyzstan the most famous were imprisoned for political reasons during the past year. Amid street protests intensified in March opposition websites, and independent radio stations have been blocked or jammed, and the publication of three newspapers was suspended. Two prominent journalists were killed last year.
