"Short answer: he didn't have any.

The TRUTH is:

African Americans, either slave or freemen, were valuable to the South and no value to the north whatsoever. Most Northern (so-called "free")states wanted no slaves because they wanted no blacks resident there. [Where you had slaves, you found a small percentage of freed slaves as well.]

A few free blacks had already amassed tremendous fortunes in the South prior to 1860 and were socially accepted into the Southern aristocracy (but not intermarriage!). A free black middle class was emerging.

The Protestant churches were aggressively teaching African Americans language skills (so they could read The Bible).

The southern courts were gradually accepting slave testimony against whites, and the southern legislatures were gradually awarding civil protections to slaves.

The South was undeniably in the process of freeing its slaves without the Abolitionists.

Then came Mr. Lincoln, the United States version of Stalin, and his war.

Abraham Lincoln's central purpose was launching an armed invasion and conquest of the South. He had no real, other purposes beyond that goal. It mattered none to him how many died nor how they died. Mr. Lincoln was a heinous war criminal by modern standards.

When Union troops freed slaves early in the war in coastal South Carolina, Lincoln ordered them re-enslaved.

When Union troops occupied large areas of Louisiana around New Orleans, many slaves starved to death deprived of their livelihood.

Union troops hung (lynched) slaves at random for providing them "misleading" information. Slaves were called "contraband" by the Union army, not "people."

The Emancipation Proclamation intended to free no slaves it all, by "freeing" only those under Confederate government jurisdiction. [By the same token, Jefferson Davis could have issued a Minimum Wage Proclamation for Irish workers in the north.]

People praise Abraham Lincoln today because his villainy created the national government which everyone is supposed to worship. The public education system indoctrinates the myth of Lincoln into the children.

[The indoctrination begins every school day by pledging allegiance to the flag, which includes the "one nation indivisible" language."
