Saturn V sounds like a movie on the NASA engineers and a way, it could be. A new pilot program magnet science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), with the Saturn V Hays CISD is open two new schools, primary and Ralph Pfluger Carpenter Hill Elementary for the 2010-2011 school year.
The program will be based on standards of government program focusing on science projects and engineering.Two classrooms of fourth grade students and two classrooms of fifth graders, 176 students in total, both elementary schools will participate in Saturn V.
"A high priority is placed on students' ability to communicate their understanding through written, spoken and multimedia platforms," said Dr. Ellen Lyon, Hays CISD Instructional Strategist-STEM. "This means a commitment to develop the skills of 21st Century such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation."
About half the participating students will be in attendance areas of new schools, and the other half will be open to fourth and fifth graders from an elementary school in Hays CISD.
"There are several reasons for investing in the Saturn V. Firstly, it is our moral duty to educate our students in a way that reflects their potential and optimize their choices in life," Hays CISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said."Having rich experience in technical fields in primary school will help some students see their future sooner and to motivate them to pursue courses they may not otherwise taken into account."
