How to replace the fuse on an M-Audio Sputnik tube microphone

December 9, 2009 - What you looking at above is the power of a micro-Audio Sputnik tube M. The Sputnik mic is a fantastic sounding and very reasonable price for a tube. You'd think it was strictly a vocal microphone design, but it is capable of a variety of ambient noise sources are fantastic.
Being a tube microphone, it requires a rather beefy power supply. Having stopped working several months ago, I was not sure what was wrong with it exactly. But judging by the problems I had with some of my other gear, including a fried food in my Korg Triton, I thought of the electrical circuits of shit in the apartment I rented was to blame . I had been putting off buying a power conditioner, and I paid dearly for it. Do not make the same mistakes I did ... buy a power conditioner!
Ok, now that little tidbit of advice on how I read the manual the fuse switch. The problem is that I did not know what kind of fuse it necessary, or even if the fuse is located.Being the procrastinator that I am, the repair work has been shelved.
Today, I decided that was enough, I would get the Sputnik and running so I can mic my amp. After taking part of the envelope, I did not find the fuse. Feeling stupid, I searched online to find a solution. Fortunately, it appears that a user forum Gearslutz had the same problem and was able to get a response from M-Audio. I know what you think, "Wow, Gearslutz actually had some good information rather than flame wars gear?!". I know, I was surprised too.
Anyway, it appears that the fuse is in a hidden compartment above where you plug the power cord. Not only that, there is an additional fuse hidden in this room. I jumped on the old, put in a booster and it worked. So if you buy a Sputnik and the fuse goes kaput, you know what to do. Judging by the Google search I ran, this is not an uncommon problem. Here are pictures of the correction....
