WWII Russian Tank is found after 62 years in the mud!
WWII Russian tank with German marks uncovered after 62 years. WWII buffs will find this interesting - Even after 62 years (and a little tinkering), they managed to launch the diesel engine!
A Komatsu D375A-2 bulldozer pulled the car dropped out of his tomb in the bank of a swampy lake near Johvi, Estonia. The Soviet-built tank T34/76A was resting at the bottom of the lake for 56 years. According to its specifications, is a 27-tonne machine with a top speed of 53km/hr.
From February to September 1944, heavy battles were fought in the narrow, 50 km across open, Narva, in the north-eastern Estonia. More than 100,000 men were killed and 300,000 men were wounded there. During the fighting in the summer of 1944, the tank was captured by the Soviet army and used by the German army. (That's why there are German marks painted on the outside of the tank.)
At that time, a boy walking along the lake, Kurtna Matasjarv, noticed tank tracks leading to the lake, but do not go anywhere. For two months he saw air bubbles emerging from the lake. This gave reason to believe that there must be an armored vehicle at the lake bottom. A few years ago, he told the story of the leader of the club's history, the warlords Otsing. Together with other club members, Mr. Igor Shedunov initiated diving expeditions to the lake bottom a year ago. At a depth of 7 meters, they discovered the tank resting under a layer of 3 meters of peat. The amateur club, under the direction of Mr. Shedunov, decided to remove the tank.
In September 2000, they turned to Mr.Aleksander Borovkovthe, manager of the Narva opencast company AS Eesti Polevkivi, to rent the Komatsu D375A-2 bulldozer. (Currently used at the pit, the Komatsu dozer was manufactured in 1995 and recorded 19,000 hours of operation without major repairs.)
The operation began firing at 09:00 and was concluded at 15:00, with several technical breaks. The weight of the tank, combined with the travel incline, made a pulling operation that required significant muscle. The D375A-2 handled the operation with power and style. The weight of the fully armed tank was around 30 tons, so that the active force required to retrieve it was similar. The main condition for the bulldozer 68-tonnes was to have sufficient weight to prevent slipping while moving up the hill....
